Līhu’e Loop Intro - Audio Transcript

Aloha! Welcome to the Lihue Loop Audio Tour! My name is Katelyn Lopes from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School’s Advanced Media Productions class, and I will be helping you navigate through this tour today. Before we get started, our Mayor Derek Kawakami would like to share a few words about this special town we call Lihue. Aloha, this is Mayor Derek Kawakami and I have to say that I am so excited to welcome all of you to the Lihue Loop.

Why I'm so excited is because you're literally going to be going on what used to be our playground. I went to Wilcox school, I grew up a stone's throw away across the ways at Ulu Mahi, but I have to tell you, all of this Lihue Loop were our old stomping grounds, and every time I take the loop, it brings me back to my younger days. So get ready to do a little walking, get ready to do a little learning, and get ready to perhaps retrace some of the steps that I took as a child growing into a man around this wonderful town that we know as Lihue. So welcome to the town I grew up in. I hope you have a great time. Thank you so much and aloha. Thank you Mayor Kawakami! First things first, if you are listening to this you either went to the website or scanned a QR code.

There are 19 points in the loop and each point has a unique QR code that is attached to a street sign. Each code will take you to an audio story about that particular location. If you are wondering how to scan a QR code all you have to do is go to your camera app. Then, point your camera at the QR code and keep it in the middle of your screen and in a couple of seconds a link should pop up on your device. When the link pops up, click on it and it should take you to an audio file going into the history and background of your point of interest. Then, press play. I suggest listening to these stories with headphones for the best experience.
